About our Italian cheese selection
Our cheese selection is organised by region. Starting in the South, we have our fresh Burrata from Puglia, along with the gorgeous sheep’s milk Primo Sale from Sicily, of which we stock 3 varieties. We then move up the country to some creamy Pecorino di Pienza from Tuscany (simply the best cheese for cacio e pepe – just add Garofalo Spaghetti No.9 and fresh black pepper).
The mountainous region in the North West is known to produce some great Italian hard cheeses from cow and goat’s milk. Castelmagno DOP is a favourite of the Piedmont region; this cave aged semi-hard cheese is great on its own served with a glass of Barolo. The Veneto area is the home of the unique Nero Fumé blue cheese, which is covered in lapsang souchong tea leaves for 30 days, then smoked over cedar pine to develop its complex sweet and earthy flavours.
You can combine any of our hard and soft Italian cheeses to create indulgent cheeseboards that will suit anyone’s tastes. If you’re new to exploring Italian cheeses, you might want to start with these five staples: Parmigiano-Reggiano – hard, cow’s milk; Pecorino di Pienza Gran Reserva – semi-hard, sheep’s milk; Gorgonzola Dolce – soft, blue, cow’s milk; Taleggio – semi-soft, cow’s milk; Bocconcino di Capra – semi-soft, goat’s milk. Add chestnut honey, pear compote, paesane olives and salted crackers into the mix to enjoy genuinely divine flavour combinations.
